From Nicolette Atkins née Slabbert

So lovely to find this site. I was the Market Development Manager at NAPAC from Jan 1983 to June 1986, and created the subscription systems for the Natal Philharmonic, and later the NAPAC Dance Co, the Opera and Drama and The Loft. I was also instrumental in opening celebrations of the Natal Playhouse in, and in coordinating the commission and installation of the artworks at the Playhouse and launching performances at The Cellar. One of my funnest memories is of the “hard hat” production of Pirates of Penzance in December before the official opening in April. Because construction was delayed, we coined the term “hard hat production” to go ahead with Penzance although parts of the building was not complete. How they managed backstage is something I hope someone can relate. I remember that one of the bar in the Playhouse lobby was completed during Act 1 of Penzance and drinks that had been unavailable at the start of the show were served from the bar at intermission!
